ShareI was doing a last run through of certain items on the Internet before bed and I ran across an interesting piece from David Gergen, a political analyst who served in the Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton administrations. He had a blurb from his book “Eyewitness to Power, “that spoke to leadership style and [...]

Major primary candidates
Apr
ShareIn the TV age, we have seen a whole host of different Presidential candidates from all over the United States. If you include both primary and general election from the major parties, no one could complain that we haven’t seen candidates from across the spectrum cross our paths as we picked leaders for this [...]
The P in Obama’s ENTP
Apr
ShareAs the Jeremiah Wright National Press Club (NPC) debacle gathered steam, many wondered where the hell is Barack Obama. As I am on his mailing list, the only thing I heard from his campaign was yesterday at 9:15 in an e-mail about Limited Edition Car Magnets. I wondered, “do they not see the [...]
Drilling for oil
Apr
ShareToday, I read an article by Robert Samuelson in the Washington Post advising that the U.S. allow drilling for oil in previous no-go drilling zones because the cost of oil is rising. Originally, I agreed with his assessment. Today, I have grave doubts whether drilling in environmentally sensitive areas is a good idea. [...]
More on HBOS

ShareThe Lex column in Yesterday’s FT highlights what many market players are thinking about the company’s £4 billion ($8 billion) rights issue: the economic outlook in the UK is worse than feared.
“The main potential explanation for the apparent excess capital is that the board’s outlook for the real economy is worse than stated. Retail bankers’ [...]

Obama disowns Wright
Apr
ShareI am satisfied with how Obama has disowned Rev. Wright. He did so emphatically and categorically.
“Whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed as a consequence of this,” Obama said.
He was angry at what Wright said and did. See story.
For me, that ends this debate. Let’s move on to real issues.
The Windfall Profit Tax: Bad Idea
Apr
With oil prices edging up near $120 a barrel, isn’t it time for a Windfall Profits tax on oil companies in order to alleviate the burden of the high cost of oil? The short answer is no. Let me explain why.
Generation Gap in Politics
Apr
ShareMarc Ambinder over at the Atlantic Monthly showed a chart suggesting a future re-alignment of voting patterns toward the Democratic party and away from the Republican party. His chart reinforces the idea that it is not naiveté on the part of young voters in supporting Obama’s Presidential candidacy, it is rather that there has [...]
HBOS to raise new capital
Apr
ShareAs I predicted on Saturday, HBOS has gotten caught up in the global mortgage meltdown. Bloomberg reports:
HBOS Plc, the U.K.’s biggest mortgage lender, will sell 4 billion pounds ($8 billion) of shares to bolster capital depleted by asset writedowns and a deteriorating housing market.
As the UK housing market has only begun to turn down [...]
