Video: Cutting back in Ireland

The following video is from the Wall Street Journal and serves as a continuation on the theme of investigating the economies of Europe’s periphery. These videos are good because it puts a human face on a subject for people unfamiliar with the issues. I showed you the video on Spain a couple of week’s ago. That one was marred by bias. This one, however, is relatively more objective.

In my opinion, you have to be aware in human-interest stories like this of editorializing. To the degree there is an unnecessary editorial undertone, it is twofold. One is that the Irish government has favoured the banks and saddled taxpayers with a large burden. The second related one is that austerity is good but that the debt caused by Ireland’s banks makes it more difficult than it should be.
