Chart of the Day: State Budget Gaps 2010

This is not just about California. Come Summer 2010, the most severe gaps will be closed via budget cuts or tax increases unless the Federal Government can pull a rabbit out of the hat.

It’s very interesting, and a jumping off point for many other discussions.

Other commenters note the tendency of the bluest states to have some of the biggest budget gaps — CA, NY, NJ, VT, and IL. But two of the three red states that find themselves in the most distress — NV and AZ — also happen to be the states with the highest rate of growth in government employment between 1990 and 2009.

This is something I have worked on over at the-grayling.com.
