This is the provocative title of an article a friend I greatly respect sent me. Have a go at it at the link at the bottom of the following quote; it is very blunt and sincere. The article says:
Feminisms of all sorts have moved beyond the idea that feminism is a white woman’s thing; [...]

Conspicuous Consumption
May
I happened upon an article at “The Moderate Voice” about “Conspicuous Consumption” originally posted on UPenn’s Wharton Business School’s website. It’s a great piece of research which explains nicely in part why Blacks and Hispanics tend to have less savings and spend less on education.
Blacks and whites appear to have different spending [...]
Hillary Clinton backer backlash
May
The NARAL endorsement of Barack Obama has laid bare the anger and angst of the most fervent of pro-Hillary supporters and demonstrates the depth of emotion now playing out in this Democratic nomination campaign. The internecine war between the two base constituencies of blacks and women is reminiscent of the conflict between the Woman’s and [...]

Biofuels
May
I caught an interesting letter to the editor at the New York Times. We really need to think about which alternative energy sources we use and this letter highlights the fact.
Re “Bring On the Right Biofuels,” by Roger Cohen (column, The New York Times on the Web, April 24):
Biofuels contribute to deforestation and global [...]
Overkill and Short Shrift

Bob Herbert has a great column in today’s New York Times about race. I definitely suggest giving it a read. He says:
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright is no doubt (and regrettably) a big issue in the presidential campaign. But what we’ve seen over the past week is major media overkill — Jeremiah Wright all [...]

Polls: Is Barack Obama Poised To Lose North Carolina Democratic Primary?
May
The following is a link to a blog by Joe Gandelman, who is Editor-in-Chief at the Moderate Voice online. From what he has compiled, the Wright fiasco has been absolutely catastrophic for the Obama campaign. This could be the thing that implodes the efficacy of his whole candidacy.
Don’t get me wrong, I still [...]

Drilling for oil
Apr
Today, I read an article by Robert Samuelson in the Washington Post advising that the U.S. allow drilling for oil in previous no-go drilling zones because the cost of oil is rising. Originally, I agreed with his assessment. Today, I have grave doubts whether drilling in environmentally sensitive areas is a good idea. [...]

Obama disowns Wright
Apr
I am satisfied with how Obama has disowned Rev. Wright. He did so emphatically and categorically.
“Whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed as a consequence of this,” Obama said.
He was angry at what Wright said and did. See story.
For me, that ends this debate. Let’s move on to real issues.

Obama must disown Wright
Apr
Jeremiah Wright is a self-absorbed and egocentric man. Barack Obama must disown Wright if he wants to have any chance of being elected President. I listened to the speech Wright gave at the National Press Club. I wanted to hear something good. The Bill Moyers interview was fine in my estimation. But Wright [...]

Barack does have problems connecting
Apr
Barack Obama is definitely not comfortable on a tractor, in a bowling alley, or downing shots of Crown Royal. You might think things like that are petty when it comes to voting in a democracy. But, in the end, many people are less concerned with global issues, and more concerned with the kind [...]
