Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama

Yesterday, former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican, endorsed Democratic candidate Barack Obama for President despite long-standing support for John McCain. While I agree with the reasoning in many of the statements he made as to why he has endorsed Obama instead of McCain, it is unclear what, if any, impact this [...]
The Obama as terrorist theme gains traction among some

The YouTube video below is gaining a wide audience on the Internet. It shows an Ohio blogger interviewing some McCain-Palin supporters after a speech and rally by Sarah Palin in that state earlier this week.
The blogger’s question to attendees of the rally is fairly straightforward: “Do you think Barack Obama is a terrorist?”

Obama wins debate

Last night Barack Obama and John McCain had at it in their second Presidential debate in the U.S. John McCain has been slipping in the polls and needed a game-changer to break Obama’s momentum. He didn’t get it. Pundits and polls agree that Obama won the might, with CNN’s poll showing a [...]
US: Democrats looking at a filibuster proof Senate majority

Politico is reporting that the Democrats are on track to potentially reach a super-majority of sixty seats in the U.S. Senate. Sixty is a very important number in the Senate because it neuters any attempt by the opposing party to block legislation by eliminating the opportunity to filibuster.
If Barack Obama is elected President, such [...]

Edward Harrison here.
In the last post, Marshall commented on the need for the U.S. Presidential candidates to show their mettle in a time of financial volatility. As I write this, the Dow Jones Industrial average has just finished the day up over 400 points — a relief after some heavy selling pressure the past [...]

Marshall Auerback here.
This crisis is an audition for the presidency in real time — and an opportunity for a candidate to step up to the plate. If handled the right way, it could decide the election. If it is treated like another political issue, it could fade with the next news cycle.
So far, Obama is [...]
Obama leads McCain by 2 points

The latest Zogby/Reuters poll shows Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama with a 2 point lead over Sen. John McCain. Obama leads by 47 to 45 percent amongst likely voters. This is a marked turnaround as McCain led in this poll by 5% before the conventions in August.

Quote of the day: 3 Sep 2008 – Joe Lieberman

Obama mentor Joe Lieberman is going all out for Obama’s opponent in order to defeat Obama. Why, you ask, when he made quotes like this one in 2006 (via Political Wire):
“The gifts that God has given to Barack Obama are as enormous as his future is unlimited. As his mentor, as his colleague, [...]
