I have been outside of the U.S. away from the U.S. media for quite a while now. Coming back to America, I hear about the debate on whether we are bitter in this country over 35 years of eroding income. The answer is: of course we are. I know I am and I know most of my friends are too. We’re sick and tired of the rich getting richer while the rest of us fall behind. This will be the first generation to do worse economically than their parents in the history of the United States.
Ask yourself: what’s the point of being the richest country in the world if our schools are terrible, we have eroding middle class income, millions without health care and the highest rate of gun crime in the developed world? To me, being a rich nation means that almost everyone benefits from that riches. But, for the past 35 years, it is the rich who have benefited while others have fallen behind.
Yes, we are bitter.
