With Bill Clinton making any number of questionable statements this primary season is his legacy tarnished? I would certainly say so. I was listening to Keith Olbermann earlier in the week comparing Clinton’s campaigning prowess to Willy Mays in 1973 at the end of his career or Joe Montana in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform at the end of his. The suggestion being that Bill Clinton has lost his edge.
Now, Bill Clinton is suggesting that young people voting for Obama are doing so out of naivete (see story). I have become increasingly turned off by the Clintons in this campaign. I was skeptical of the two in 1992 but gradually grew to see them in a more favorable light, even voting for Hillary in the 2000 NY Senate contest.
However, they have showed themselves to be nasty, vindictive and petty as they go all out against Obama. I imagine this is how many felt about Ted Kennedy after he went against Carter in 1980. He, too, was able to rehabilitate himself. These days, with Bill making questionable remarks comparing Obama to Jesse Jackson in 1988, defending his wife’s lies over Tuzla, and disparaging the youth vote, you have to wonder if he is willing to do anything to get his wife elected and protect his political legacy.
All that said, I intend to vote for Obama in the general election because he represents the best hope this country has for a course correction toward a proper domestic and foreign policy. I cannot vote for Hillary Clinton in the general election because she represents more of the same. Were it a Clinton-McCain choice, I would have to consider if I trusted Hillary enough to stay away from the polls. However, if she (and her husband) continued down the same line, I would not only NOT vote for her, I would vote for McCain.
Let’s see where we go from here.
